A Letter from

Eberhard J. Wirfs

Past President, International Lions Club Foundation

Dear Tim,

I want to express my most sincere condolences to you and your family as you mourn the death of your beloved father, Sargent. I was deeply saddened when I heard the news. Please know that I share your pain, as I too have endured grieving from the loss of a parent.

In this time of sorrow, I wish you comfort in knowing that your father gave hope to millions of people through both the Peace Corps and Special Olympics. His dedication, coupled with that of your mother's, to serving disadvantaged populations and increasing humanitarian services has provided a brighter future for people who otherwise would have gone without such opportunities.

Lions Clubs International Foundation is honored to work alongside Special Olympics and further support the humanitarian efforts they first launched.

My personal commitment to all populations was renewed this past year when you and I celebrated together our 10th year of partnership at the Regional Games and Opening Eyes screening in Poland. There I met 17-year-old Tomaz Banas whose new glasses helped him score gold in doubles badminton. Sargent has positively impacted Tomaz's life as well as so many other athletes worldwide. During his tenure as president and CEO, he helped the program expand internationally, further breaking down boundaries so that all athletes, no matter from what country or cultural background, have equal opportunities.

Please know that Margit and I, as well as of the staff at Lions Club International Foundation, will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers, especially now during this difficult period.

With my cordial regards,

Eberhard J. Wirfs
