AIC Sends Condolences to the Family and Friends of Ambassador Sargent Shriver
It is with deepest regret and sorrow that the American-Iranian Council (AIC) announces the passing of Ambassador Sargent Shriver, a member of the Council's Honorary Board of Directors. The late Shriver joined AIC in 1999 at the invitation of his legendry friend, the late Cyrus Vance, who served as the Council's Honorary Chairman.
Ambassador Shriver dedicated his distinguished life to improving the welfare of the most vulnerable members of society. His leadership, commitment and inspiration has served millions of Americans and citizens of the globe through the establishment of visionary programs such as Peace Corps, Head Start, VISTA, Legal Services for the Poor, Office of Economic Opportunity, Job Corps, and the Special Olympics.
As a pioneering member of AIC's Honorary Board, Ambassador Sargent Shriver's unwavering belief in the spirit of humanity, mutual respect and dignity for all has been a source of inspiration and drive for the Council to continue its mission and vision for global peace and normalization of relations between the United States and Iran.
The American Iranian Council sends its heartfelt condolences to the Kennedy and Shriver families, friends and associates. We will all miss Sargent, one of the most extraordinary citizens of our time, who deeply and lovingly touched so many of our lives.
"Each of us has the power to bring peace not only to the world, but to our hearts." - Sargent Shriver
